Find out whether a mobile food business is a solution for you.
First of all:
Food trailers are mobile points of sale for food and drinks. They are specially equipped vehicles (trailers), that allow meals to be prepared and served. They are most commonly found at fairs, markets, outdoor events, or in busy areas of cities.
Now that we know what a food trailer is, let’s move on to the question that interests most people – is it a good source of income?
Is a food trailer a good business idea?
The trailer itself will not generate profits, but if you have some free time – for example on weekends – it is worth considering purchasing one. It can become an additional source of income and provide financial security.
Importantly, a food trailer does not lose its value as quickly as a car. For comparison:
a new car loses about 10–20% of its value immediately after leaving the dealership,
after a year about 25%
after three years 40–50%.
Food trailers, on the other hand, depending on the quality of workmanship and the condition of the equipment, lose on average only 4–7% of their value per year.
From our experience as a manufacturer, many customers have sold their used trailers for only about 5% less than the purchase price – even after several years of use.
This shows that a food trailer is not only a work tool, but also a safe form of
capital investment.
Advantages of running a mobile food business
Low depreciation of the trailer and equipment
Ability to change location at any time
Low operating costs
Flexibility – you can operate seasonally or at events
Disadvantages
Relatively high initial cost
You’re probably thinking: “It’s easy to say, the manufacturer is just praising their product.”
That’s not the point. The truth is, many people don’t realize how simple and flexible this business model can be. It just requires a bit of perseverance.
The most important thing is not to give up after the first unsuccessful attempt.
If there’s no traffic for a week – it might be due to the location or the weather.
If it lasts longer – try changing the location. Sometimes even… turning the trailer around can significantly improve sales.
This is the first of five parts in a series dedicated to starting your journey in mobile food business.
